A ten-minute review that catches duplicated functions before they become extra weight.

Field method / 01

Name the role of every object.

An item without a clear role is usually an item packed from anxiety.

Move through the bag from one compartment to the next and state what each object is expected to do. Vague answers such as just in case are a signal to look for overlap.

The aim is not to remove useful comfort. It is to distinguish comfort from duplication.

Field method / 02

Find duplicated functions.

Two different objects can still solve the same problem.

Look for multiple layers with the same warmth, several cables serving one device, or containers that hold products with overlapping uses. Keep the version that works across more of the journey.

This approach protects the items that genuinely improve the trip while removing weight that has no distinct purpose.

03

Field method / 03

Move with the bag before deciding.

A packing list is theoretical until the bag is carried.

Walk the stairs, lift the bag to shoulder height, and access the items needed first. Small annoyances become visible immediately when the system is tested in motion.

Make the final edit after this test, then record the result. The next journey begins with evidence instead of another blank page.
